It feels less like building a feature and more like building a village square.

Small update. I’ve been deep in code learning #Luau and now playing around with #RobloxStudio as I learn more. AI has been handy in that instead of asking it to “spit out code” - I prompt it to act as a mentor and teacher, guiding me where to “look” prior to giving me examples if I ask for help.

Another cool feature that goes unnoticed on a MacBook. When I want to tether my mobile phone for internet usage – I don’t have to first turn on the hotspot on the mobile phone – just click tether on the Mac, and the ecosystem does it for you. Small, but gold and convenient.

The ending to Season 2 of #Silo was a little bit of a downer. Not that the news is sad or anything like that, or wanting to tell anyone any ending. What I mean by it is, didn’t end on such a high as the ending of Season 1, and doesn’t really get you at the edge of your seat anticipating Season 3… Oh well - I’m sure Season 3 will be awesome when it’s released though!

I umm, ended up watching the whole season 1 of #Silo. And I’ve just started watching Season 2. I love it. It’s like a much more serious #Fallout. The similarities are there, cannot be denied. Fallout came out in 1997. But a different, more serious dystopian spin that I like just as much.

So lately, I have been having issues with my Ethernet port built into my motherboard. It is intel based and has been getting random hangs throughout the day. The only way to get the net back was to unplug and plug back in and the hang would fix itself. Now, I purchased a new UGREEN USB to Ethernet Adapter as a solution. So my #Tor Node and my #OpenSimulator world on the #Metaverse can stay online.

Something I have been enjoying about the #Fediverse is the ability to follow domains instead of just social accounts. Some creators have both the domain with news articles and a dedicated social network account on things like #Mastodon. But these tend to sometimes get too much, like #GrapheneOS lately. I can keep updated with actual product news by following their domain, and not get all the other stuff that is not relevant to me.

I’ve been using #AI a lot to assist with problems and have come across a problem I am seeing pop up with all #LLM’s lately.

I feel that they are getting dumber and more susceptible to #hallucinations. I’ve been put into hours worth of rabbit holes for a potential solution to a problem only to argu with the LLM about the information it is providing being misinformation and completely made up.

AI is learning from AI generated slop all over the internet and it is having an effect.

The first night is always the hardest, breaking your daily routine and sleep cycle. Ok, I got #Obsidian working! I can write freely within my daily journal entry, select the text I wish to publish and hit a shortcut. It will create a new unique note with the extracted text backlinked in my daily journal entry, and then I can directly publish that into my website and #microblog without leaving Obsidian. Fun!

My mother told me that my daughter is having difficulty with her homework and tutoring as she has an addiction to the iPad and in particular #Roblox.

After some discussion, I have put some restrictions on the XBOX to prevent both the girls from playing anything on it from 3pm to 6pm after school if I am not at home, as it seems that when both my wife and I are at work, the kids will rush to get to Grandmas' iPAD and run upstairs to the XBOX to play Roblox together.

I can’t agree more. It’s writers like these, as well as @manton and so forth that got me re-focused on the indieweb and creating my own home again on the internet. I will admit, loading up my website and reading my blog and “microblog” posts and its replies coming in from people reading from the website or other platforms thanks to syndication and webmentions, just feels so nice and cozy.

From quick watching currently during the transcoding process, I hear no audio. I hope that this is just during transcoding, as it’s a long upload and transcoding process just to have a video with no audio.

From my reading about social media platforms growing exponentially, there comes a point where growing a #moderation team is essential. This problem is less common with the #Fediverse with self-hosted small instances. But what about the larger instances? Have any #devs thought about implementing features such as is available in #Discourse. A #trust based moderation system as a community grows? Is that even a feasible thing to do?

So I have disabled #Vanadium on my #ChromeOS and replaced it with just the #Tor browser for mobile phone browsing, with #Kagi search. While #Mullvad works better on Desktop for “speed” when it comes to needing fast download speeds. I don’t tend to need to use fast internet from my mobile phone and find myself just doing #procrastibrowsing of news sites.

I feel #Liberated! I have finally managed to delete as many apps as possible from my phone (fully #degoogled too). I now use Airplane mode with wifi calling exclusively at home, and only turn on my 4G/5G mobile connection at locations when and if I need it (no tracking from providers).

Essentially feels like I have de-phoned myself but still have one in my pocket for emergency calls should I need it. Should the family need me urgently? They know my work landline. We survived pre 90’s.

So, I am officially on the #Federated #Metaverse of #OpenSimulator and #SelfHosting my own region server with a land size of 1024mx1024m, or, 1km2.

Can’t wait to get coding in the OSSL language and learn the ropes, and build my own virtual world!

Well, the good news is I got my region going on the #OpenSim #Metaverse. I went with #OSGrid as I was able to easily add my own region to it. It is a 4x4 (1024x1014) region (16 sims) - I should be able to build quite a bit on this.

Not only do I enjoy being part of the #Fediverse, but I also want to be on the #Metaverse, by setting up my own self-hosted instance of a 3d virtual world region on #OpenSim - too bad #SecondLife which is #centralized doesn’t go #decentralized and let users how their own worlds. Will let you know how I go!

Wow, I did not realise that #tracking was that complex. Data brokers know your every move! Be careful how many apps, and what apps, you allow on your phone.

I am glad I made the move to #GrapheneOS, which started my progress of removing as many apps as possible from my phone. Dumb it down! THen work on the PC!

My mother at the age of above 65, suddenly decides that now is a good time to take up #hiking with me. So I’ll take her on a easy, flat 7km trail today with no real inclines. Should take 2 hours or so. See how we go.

So with these new law changes coming eventually to social media, including the need to verify ourselves with ID to prove our age - how does that look for #Mastodon and other #Fediverse social media? In particular the larger instances that have responsibility to its user base under their own countries laws?

I don’t think this would affect small private servers in any way, but I’m interested to know more…

Project completed. Ethernet cable routed through my double story house, with switches, to our NBN fiber modem connection. Now enjoying 1000Mbps speeds direct to the PC, instead of what I was getting, 300 via WiFi mesh.

Plan on going on a hike in the Brisbane Ranges tomorrow with my wife. A nice 12.2km trail with a 314m elevation gain up the mountain. Should be fun! Can’t wait!

Interesting article. And here in Australia is is not just about porn sites, but all social media access requiring "age verification". The age of online government issued ID is fast approaching, and speaking anonymously online without fear of losing your employment, is soon coming to an end.

A New Printer: Will this mean I start making my own prints?
So just the other day, my step-father purchased a new photo printer as he’s an avid professional photographer and makes a lot of photo prints for his clients and for the family.
I was lucky enough to be gifted with his old printer, which is a tried and tested Epson Photo Stylus R3000.

My new printing station. I got gifted an Epson Stylus Photo R3000, so happy!

Got some old monitors and a laptop HUB and will use this space purely for printing purposes. The laptop is running Windows to cover me for windows native apps I still use for certain tasks.

I can do up to A3 prints and in rolls too for panoramic.
